Sim Racing Studio ShakeKit Review

The first time I added transducers to my rig I was hooked. Delivering the tactile feedback from just engine rpms was a big improvement in the immersion factor of my cockpit. Then I added more transducers for a total of 4. One at each corner. Again a big improvement over having just 1 or 2. After running off just the audio channels for a while, I added the SimVibe software to my rig. Now I was actually getting the game telemetry delivered to my transducers. Indeed a game changer when it came to using transducers on your cockpit. The Shakekit bring us the same concept but in compact all in one package. All you need is a seat to place the cushion on and and you will be able to begin experiencing engine rpm, suspension and road bumps, braking and acceleration ques. All of the effects have a good range of adjustments, allowing you to dial in a feel that you are comfortable with. Speaking of comfort, which of course is a very subjective thing that will vary with each person, and the type of seat you use. In stock form I couldn’t get the cushion to feel as good as I would have liked. But by adding another inch of foam to the cushion, I was able to get quite comfortable. With the pucks being so close to your skin, I doubt you will need to use the full power that the amplifier circuits are capable of delivering. I know I didn’t. This system is very easy to set up on a PC. I didn’t have any issues with the Sim Racing Studio software seeing the USB sound card that’s in the controller box. Just start a supported game, of which there are many, and you are good to go. Now this kit comes in at 239.00 plus shipping. I think that if you factor in all the parts included and most importantly the software that runs it, that price is not too bad for the Shakekit. Probably the easiest way for you to get a proper feeling transducer solution deployed on your Sim Racing setup. And certainly worth a look if you are in the market of a shaker system.

Great review as always, thank you.

I noticed there wasn’t really a comparison of this product vs. a conventional ‘four-corner’ shaker setup using buttkickers/aura-style transducers.

How do you think this product stands up in that respect? Does a conventional setup necessarily transmit that much more information, and is it worth the cost difference?

Many thanks

As a follow-up question – how does this compare against something like a Gametrix Jetseat (soon-to-be Realteus) product?

Thanks!
