Thrustmaster T150 Review

This wheel is targeted at the entry level driving game enthusiast. It is one of the cheapest FFB wheels availble. So we have to manage expectation levels accordingly. The build quality is decent. But the compromise in
materials used is evident. The wheel mount does fix the base with enough firmness to satisfy most I think. But I would like to see Thrustmaster add a few inches in length to the internal supporting metal plate. Allowing the
installation of a couple of threaded inserts. This would certainly improve the mounting strength and also the tactile feedback delivered by the wheel. And speaking of the feedback, I have admit I was pleasantly surprised
by the quality of the FFB this system delivers. I expected to experience not much more than some weak vibrations, and torque levels just high enough to feel some resistance. But, I did feel some good detail in the FFB queues, and overall strength of the feedback was I think adequate for a wheel at this price point. This due to the combination of a belt drive and gear drive solution used in this wheel. It actually reminded me a of the
feel from a logitech gear driven wheel. But With less detail than the logitech wheels. I believe the way Thrustmaster is using a belt driven section before using the gear drive component is the cause for this. Now for the pedals. This is where I think this kit falls short. The throttle does well enough, but the brake pedal is a another story. Really a big disappointment for me. There is literally no tactile feedback on this pedal. The spring is very
weak, and it is not easy to tell just how far your foot has traveled in the pedal stroke until you actually hit the stop bump. Of course a brake pedal that is using a potentiometer will always be an issue of a driver’s muscle memory being the deciding factor on how well you can brake. But with the minimalistic feel delivered by this pedal it makes for a longer learning curve to develop a feel for how much brake pedal you are applying. I think this could be fixed by using a stronger spring and a better bump stop. Really, if you buy this kit, don’t think that this brake pedal represents other options out there, Including Thrustsmaster’s own T3PA pedal set. Which in my opinion is much better than the set included here. Overall I think the T150 pretty much met my expectations. With the exception of the brake pedal of course.
