SimuWheel Button Plate Review

Obviously when you buy a SimuCube OSW kit you will need to find a steering wheel for it. And there are a lot of ways to go about getting one. Here we see a solution that is more economical than most. If you get the G10 version of this button plate instead of the carbon fiber one, it cost 192.00 shipped. Add a 320mm JDM wheel from eBay for 24.00, and you
would have a complete steering wheel kit with paddle shifters for 216.00. I don’t think that anyone would be unhappy with that. But the wheel still has to perform. And be able to with
stand the heavy FFB torque that the OSW kits can deliver. Now if you saw the look inside segment of this review you would have seen that the SimuWheel button plate uses a PLA 3D printed hub. At first I was a bit concerned about it’s ability to withstand the Forces of a Mige servo motor. But by using a complex interwoven pattern on the hub section, the
strength of the hub seem to be good. I drove with this plate in all manner of driving conditions. With the ultimate test using the Lotus 79 at Seebring with as much FFB torque as
I could manage. After quite some time of using it this way, I could not detect any flex, or find any wear or damage to the hub area. So, it has satisfied me to this point that it can
handle the increased torque loads. The shifters did a good job. I never felt any missed shifts that could be blamed on the shifters themselves. The thing I did not like is  the amount of flex towards the outer sections of the carbon paddles. But being 2.3mm thick, I was not expecting class leading stiffness here. Still if you executed your shifts from the center of the lever, the flex was not noticeable. Of course considering the price point that this button plate system comes in at, I don’t have too much to complain about. After all, you are getting a fully functional wheel solution here at a very low price. 192.00 shipped has go to be one of the if not the most cost effective ways to get a fully housed button plate solution. And
if you can manage to keep your wheel selection within a reasonable cost range, you end up with quite a bargain I think.
