Fanatec CSL Elite RW Review

The CSL Elite wheel set is Fanatec’s entry level solution. It has the famous Fanatec fit and finish that we have been used to seeing. I have always like the
look of Fanatec’s products. The wheel that is included with my officially licensed PS4 system is purpose made for this price point. Even so it does have a nice finish to it. With a combination of perforated leather at the hand contact points and suede on the rest of the rim if feels very good in hand. But with the one piece plastic backing including the built in wheel shaft clamp, it’s not the stiffest wheel in Fanatec’s lineup. There is some flex when pushing and pulling on the rim  when it is stationary. But when you are using it, the flex is not that noticeable to me. There is also some flex in the wheel base itself even when mounted with three 6mm screws. But at this price point I really didn’t expect it to be that solid. Still the flex didn’t bother me when I was driving. Although I was thinking to that with less flex the FFB experience would be even better. I’m not a fan of this metal band that is used to cinch down the wheel. But it does get the job done so the wheel did not loosen over time. The 6NM motor that drives this wheel, has good power. Certainly noticeably more power than say a G29 or T300RS wheel. And it seems Fanatec has been able to use that power to good effect. With the FFB set to 100, and adjusting in game to avoid clipping, I was able to get a good FFB experience in most games. The FFB also seemed to be able to convey the proper ques, as far as the front end washing out or the rear end sliding. So I was able to handle most any car control situation without too much drama. The new direct sensor position design seems to be doing it’s job well. The motor did not over heat on me when driving hard in long sessions. Although you could hear the fan working hard to keep things cool. Over all, I had a positive experience running the CSL Elite system. With my main concern being the flex. But as most of you know that is one of the things I am always looking for. I think the main thing for potential buyers to consider here is whether or not you need the 6NM of FFB power. As there are less expensive Wheel systems out there that also do a good
job. Just not as much power on tap. Personally I always go for as much power as I can afford.
