Augury F1S Wheel Review

I got this wheel from Augury Simulations. I have dealt with them in the past so they were the first ones I thought of when I wanted to get this wheel. I also got the Sim racing coach quick release. Which actually work really well. Like some of you guys, I have had my eye on the F1s wheel for a while. And I’m happy to finally get my hands on one. The wheel comes nicely packaged with its custom case and covered in a protective sock. I also like the coiled USB cable with the 90 degree metal screw on connector. Keeping the cable securely connected
and out of the way. The F1 styled grips are new to me and I did have to get used to them. Not that it took very long. And while I have no real issues with the grip in use, I would like to see more of a curve or radius added to the front of the grip. I think, at least for me, it would increase the comfort level. The wheels buttons have a good tactile feel to them. Giving a nice click
when activated. The thumb encoders were of good but not best quality. With easy to feel detents when rotated. Also the joystick button worked fine, but a bit vague feeling when you move it. The shifters worked well. And while my personal preference leans towards magnetic shifters, these spring shifters worked well with the plungers activate the switches giving good tactile feedback. The clutch paddles didn’t have the best feel of the ones I have tried so far. But they got the job done. And once you adjust the proper bite point in the GS Pro display software. Launches with no wheel spin were easy to do. Speaking of the software, I found it to be not very user friendly at first. You can download a manual for it and being 21 pages long, gives you an idea at just how deep the functionality of this display goes. Impressive to be sure. I need to spend more time with it. But I was able to get what I needed done. Without
spending too much time with it. I know this is a formula centric wheel and has what it takes to excel at its main mission. But I found it also performs very well driving other cars. Like GT’s and Prototypes. With a 300mm grip width, it is a very flexible solution. The only real fault I found with this wheel were the less than stellar encoders used in the wheels bottom positions. Plastic shafts with too much play let the total package of this wheel down a bit. Especially after seeing how well the internals of this wheel are done. With a custom PCB and professional level wiring solutions, it lets you see that the guys at Simulaje know what they are doing. So, at 500.00 dollars plus shipping, I would put this wheel on my list of ones to look at if you in the market at this price point for a custom wheel.
