Final thoughts on the ASR 1 cockpit from the guys at Advanced Sim Racing. This is part 2 of a 2 part video review series I did on this cockpit called the “Setup” Be sure to check out the “Build” video or part 1. This is what I would call an entry level cockpit. The first part to go on the ASR 1 was my seat. It mounted to the 15 series profiles that serve as seat rails with no dramas. Once the seat was secured, I moved on to mounting a servo motor to the optional front mount wheelbase mount. A 1/2″ or 13mm thick piece of aluminum. Again, no issues encountered here. The included fixing bolts were plenty long enough to get the job done. I did add some angle to the mount to get my wheel to the desired position. Next, I mounted a top tier heavy pedal set to put as much pressure on the ASR 1’s pedal tray assembly that I could. The brake on the R7 pedal set has a maximum pedal pressure of 120 kilograms. The final control I mounted was a sequential shifter. I was able to find an acceptable position, even thought the seat I am using is on the wide side. As far as ergonomics go, I found a relatively comfortable driving position via the available range of adjustments on this cockpit. Still, I would find a way to raise the pedal set’s height to get it where I would want it. In testing sessions with the ASR 1 it did meet my expectations considering it’s price point. With the pedal tray exceeding those expectations a bit. It did flex under the maximum pressure I was able to deliver with
this stiff brake pedal. But not much and was not very noticeable when driving. The wheelbase did a good job handling all 15Nms the Simucube Sport wheelbase has on hand. There was movement, but not an extreme amount. The shifter mount was rock solid on the video footage with the full sized control I was using. Overall, I feel like this is a well thought out design that uses the right components in the right places to deliver a relatively firm cockpit experience. I does not perform like top tier profile cockpits, but at 400.00 plus shipping, I don’t think most would expect it to.
