Final thoughts on the Qubic Systems QS 220 PL actuator kit from the guys at Motion Systems. I received 2 of these kits, which Motion systems call Their extended set for a true 3DOF motion system. The kits came well packaged in their retail boxes. The kits presented as a top tier product with very good fit and finish. Each kit consist of 2 QS L1 actuators and a QS
SB2 controller box. Which can be set up as a 2DOF system with an available pivot mount place in the front or rear of the cockpit. The controller boxes looked to be made with high quality components in a well though out circuit board design. These kits do not come with mounting brackets. I used their QS mounting bracket. Which lets you attach the actuators to
a profile cockpit from 40/80 sized to 40/160 sized. These are very heavy duty brackets, weighing in at almost 5lbs or 2.23 kilos. They will set you back an additional 60 euros each. Mounting the actuators was achieved without any dramas with the included hardware kits. Once mounted, it was time to get the required cables attached to the controller boxes in the
proper order. The included manual makes this a rather easy thing to do. Motion systems used their own in house developed configuration and tuning app call Qubic Manager. This looks to be a very mature application that supports many games. There are many adjustable parameters in the app. The tuning waters can run deep here. Fortunately, they provide a “Basic Tuning” tab that allowed me to get a setup dialed in where I had a good feel for what the car was doing on track, just using the eight provided sliders. The system has an SFX tab where you can tune engine vibration, shifting force, road surface and other things if you want them. Driving the Qubic System 3DOF setup was a very good experience. I was searching for something to pick on here, but it performed as it should. I will give one complaint here, I would rather see the mounting brackets included in the price for these kits. As it is you
will need to spend another 240 euro to get them. Or fabricate them yourself. Not really an option for most people looking at purchasing a motion system. The QS 220 PL is a professional looking kit that is well thought out and executed. What I would consider to be a true plug and play system. When you consider how long Motion Systems has been making
motion systems for their own commercial customers, and the simulator industry in general, I’m really not surprised by the quality of kit I tested here.
