Final thoughts on the Moza R16 DD FFB wheel kit. Out of the box, the R16 has a professional look and feel to it. The servo motor case is a custom unit made to Moza’s specifications. It has
some unusual styling ques to it. Mine came with the orange color scheme. It also comes with a black color scheme. Fit and finish is overall very good. It uses separate wireless solutions for the steering wheel’s power and data communication between the steering wheel and wheelbase. The steering wheel’s power is supplied by a pretty trick magnetic induction system. The data
communication is provided by a couple of wireless transceivers. One in the wheel plate and one mounted to the front of the motor casement. I like this arrangement. As the less distance a wireless signal has to travel, the better. The steering wheel has an Alcántara material applied to the rim, which feels good in hand. Although there is some flex in the rim when pulling on it. The
buttons are nothing special here but do get the job done with no dramas. The encoders have nice detents on them, but have a bit more shaft play than I would like to see. There are two analog 4 way switches on the top part of the wheel plate. The wheel plate is made from real forged carbon. As are the 3mm thick shifter and clutch levers. The shifters have a nice tactile feel to them. In use, I did have issues with missed down shifts and sometimes slow up shifts. This is something that Moza needs to fix as soon as possible, as it does not allow the driver to turn consistent lap times if you can’t count on precise and repeatable shifts. The FFB quality of the R16 is good. The available tuning software suite is easy to use and has plenty of adjustments. I was able to get a feel dialed in that I was pretty happy with. Although having the detail level where I wanted it cause there to be some faint cogging or notchyness around the wheels center. To eliminate it I needed to use more damping than I wanted, as damping also reduces detail a bit as it is applied. The digital dash worked very well with not issues. It has a bright and clear screen that is easy to read. Overall, I think this is a good wheelbase package that needs some fine tuning to get it to the level that it needs to be to compete with other systems in its price range. It is early days for the Moza R16 FFB system and from what I see here, they certainly have the capability to make it better.
